Marlowe Stoudamire

Marlowe Stoudamire, owner of consulting boutique Butterfly Effect Detroit, is a Social Capital Expert.  He uses the intersection of relationships, shared human experiences and dynamic business models to help individuals, businesses and communities leverage their value with the people, places and experiences in markets where they operate or have a vested interest.  He is also the founder of Mash Detroit, a neighborhood incubator and community bridge that helps people from all walks of life collaborate, build business and re-imagine shared physical space.
 
He has 20 years’ experience in local and global business, philanthropy and social innovation capacities for public and private sector organizations and diverse communities.  Prior to launching his business, he served as Chief of Staff at the Skillman Foundation and project director of global business strategy at Henry Ford Health System – most notably projects in China, India and Saudi Arabia.   High-profile initiatives under his leadership include the Detroit 67 Project, J.P. Morgan Chase Detroit Service Corps and “One Detroit” via Detroit Public Television.
 
Marlowe believes that access to social capital depends on who you know — the size, quality and diversity of your personal and business networks.  He embraces an ethos that the value of social capital can grow over time, but not without some continued investment to maintain and strengthen relationships.  Most important, he works with tenacity to create relational reciprocity and accountability around mutual interest, purpose and space that otherwise wouldn't exist.
 
A native of Detroit, Marlowe earned a B.A. in Business from Wayne State University, and a MSA in International Administration from Central Michigan University.  He was named to 40-under-40 lists by Crain’s Detroit Business in 2012 and the Michigan Chronicle in 2013. He received the prestigious Marshall Memorial Fellowship through the German Marshall Fund of the United States in 2013 and is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.
