Diana Beltran Herrera
Artist and DesignerThe story of paper sculptures
Colombian designer and artist Diana Beltran Herrera is on a mission to use her art to restore the relationship between humans and nature. Herrera builds realistic bird sculptures from paper. After graduating with her BA degree in Industrial Design from the Jorge Tadeo Lozano University in Bogotá in 2010, Herrera realized she wasn't interested in pursuing a design practice as a life career. She was more interested in the theories of nature and mastered the art of paper sculpture, creating incredibly beautiful, lifelike birds in motion built from hundreds of tiny pieces of coloured paper. For Herrera, these sculptures are lasting representations of an ideal state, a resistance against the changes and losses nature experiences.
Herrera has exhibited in her country as well as participated in solo and group shows in Europe, Asia and the USA. She has been cooperating with artists as well as organizations and private clients as 215mccann, Olivari Olive Oil, Volevatch, Longwood gardens US, ENI, Marina Rinaldi, Lebeau-Courally, and many others.
Herrera’s name was heard on PINC’s stage before, when PINC.14-speaker Thomas Poulsom, creator of LEGO birds, shared his encounter on Facebook with Herrera, from which a romantic love story grew. Herrera lives in Bristol with Poulsom, now her husband.
