How to explain Scientific and Technological Developments

“Why would I still watch TV? I hardly watch anymore.” With these words, journalist Herbert Blankesteijn launched his blog VideoVolt.net in 2009. Since then, the site has featured a new video every day – comical, interesting, artistic, exciting, beautiful and anything else that goes unnoticed in Holland. In 2011, Blankesteijn began working with other contributors.

The blog is a byproduct of Blankesteijn’s many activities on radio, television and print media, where he explains scientific and technological developments, focusing primarily on the internet, explaining the intricacies of the cyber world to the broader public.

Blankesteijn presents a daily feature called Internet Vandaag (Internet Today) on BNR Nieuwsradio, he writes for newspapers NRC Handelsblad and De Pers, and he has published various books, including Mythen van het computertijdperk (Myths of the Computer Age) and Verbazingwekkende Vindingen van de XXe Eeuw (Amazing Inventions of the XXth Century).

Blankesteijn studied physics and, when personal computers and the internet were in their infancy, he was one of the few people who could shed light on these innovations. He contributed to popular science programs at leading broadcasting organizations and he presented a computer course for the educational TV channel Teleac. In between all this, he directed videos on science and technology for the informative children’s TV series Klokhuis. Furthermore, Blankesteijn is a movie buff and collector of feature films.
