Jack Levin, Ph.D.

Jack Levin, Ph.D. is a leading voice in topics on murder, prejudice and hate, the sociology of aging, and the sociology of conflict from his decades-long research. Emeritus Professor at Northeastern University in Boston, where he co-directs its Center on Violence and Conflict, Dr. Levin has interviewed and corresponded with killers and murderers, such as Charles Manson and the Hillside Strangler, among others such as serial killers, mass murderers, and rapists.

Dr. Levin has authored or co-authored more than 32 books, including The Allure of Premeditated Murder, Hate Crime: A Global Perspective, The Will to Kill, and Domestic Terrorism, and published more than 250 articles and columns in professional journals, newspapers, and publications like The New York Times, Boston Globe, Washington Post, and USA Today.

He’s received awards from the Eastern Sociological Society, Association of Clinical and Applied Sociology, and Society for the Study of Social Problems and appears frequently on national programs, including 48 Hours, 20/20, Dateline NBC, The Today Show, Good Morning America, Oprah, The O’Reilly Factor, and Larry King Live.

Dr. Levin has spoken to a wide variety of community, academic, and professional groups, including the White House Conference on Hate Crimes, the Department of Justice, OSCE’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, Royal College of Psychiatry in London, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
